How to configure / sleep xbee without Xbee usb explorer

Hello, I am using two xbees to send sensor data using getc() and putc(). I was wanting to configure the xbees so I can either setup the sleep mode. But most guides I have found are using the Xbee USB explorer.

Can anyone help please?

Do you have the XBee OEM manual, downloadable from Digi's web site? It's a good read.

XBee series 1 and perhaps too series 2 products have two ways to sleep that I know of... 1. AT commands to configure sleep timer and other behavior 2. An I/O pin that can be configured to be a wakeup, based on a logic level.
