printf in new mbed library broken for SiLabs EFM32 Happy Gecko STK

Hi,
If I add printf to a program for the Silicon Labs Happy Gecko STK it does not give any output on the terminal anymore. I found that with older mbed library versions the output is fine again.
I haven't had time to trace at which library version the problem started.
