mbed Development Board

Purpose

This page is intended to collect together ideas for an mbed development board. The primary principal behind the development board is to provide as simple a means as possible for end users to connect to as many different types of peripherals as possible. Additionally expose as many of the mbeds connectivity options as possible.

The hope is that in a workshop/education setting less time is spent getting hooked up and more time is spent tinkering. For other users there is the benefit that they will know that a given component will work (e.g. correctly wired) allowing for a greater focus on completing a project.

Target Connectivity

  • RJ-45 ethernet (including magnetics!)
  • VGA
  • TV Out (e.g. phono connector)
  • PS/2 keyboard
  • PS/2 mouse
  • USB
  • XBee (via the 0.2mm headers)
  • Bluetooth (how could we do this? a bluesmirf header?)

Other Components

  • Speaker
  • Push Buttons
  • More LEDs (you can never have enough)

Other features

  • Be able to dock the mbed into a 0.1" header
  • Supply a small breadboarding area
  • Power socket (be able to power board from a regulated power supply)
