USB Bluetooth module as serial port?

So I bought a cheap USB bluetooth dongle with the intention of using it as a replacement for the USB serial port on the mbed. I want to do some telemetry and receive/transmit data from the mbed when its away from my computer. I've looked into the BlueUSB library and I really don't have a clue where to begin. I've also searched the forums/site for any suggestions or examples, but my search terms usually bring up stuff about using a serial bluetooth module and USB serial ports, but nothing like what I'm trying to accomplish.
Any suggestions or can anyone point me in the right direction?
