mbed talks to Android via ADK Open Accessory API!

Google announced that Android 3.1 added "Android Open Accessory" support and the ADK, allowing external USB hardware to interact with an Android-powered device.

Because mbed has a USB Host interface built in already, that means it can theoretically be used to prototype Android Open Accessories. And it looks like some of you are already making great progress! Check this out:

This video was made by makoto abe and is found on his notebook page (currently in Japanese!)

Looks like there could be some interesting projects ahead!

There is also a video for the Google IO session itself, where this was announced:

The Google - Android platform ls going to be truly massive. Looking at the videos today, there is going to be an explosion in consumer tech.

Especially as the other platform has such closed ranks !!!!!!!

How about an MBED - GOOGLE - ANDROID platform,

After all if microchip can sell a development kit for $80 / £50 The combined power of this MBED community could blow them out of the water.

I hope there are a few people out there to get the rest of us up and running.

Great work comes from collaboration.

Sounds like a great idea! If any of you want to work on a design for a software/baseboard kit to help people prototype with ADK using mbed, i'll see if I can help get the baseboard part made/available for sale.

hi simon san
thank you for watching my project.
However, there are a lot of things that do not understand because I just started study of USBHost.
Especially, the bulk transfer of USB is not understood well.
Help is needed.
tankyou.

The app shown in the example is the standard ADK demo app as shown in the Google video, you can download it http://accessories.android.com . The Google reference board has RGB LEDs, which is why there are multi-colored sliders - in the example by makato abe all three sliders just control the intensity of the blue LED, instead of separate colors.

Still very exciting! now off to figure out how to upgrade my phone so I can play with it...
